A shoot in a strawberry patch has been on my shoot wish list for a while now, so you can imagine how excited I was when Otway Strawberries asked us to come out and take a look at their strawberry patch!
We took advantage of the school holidays and took a few of my littlest friends to go and pick our own berries. The kids loved choosing the biggest and best looking berries to add to their baskets and we learnt that there are actually 3 different types of strawberries – Lowana, Albion and Monterey (who knew!) Otway Strawberries are also 100% pesticide free!
Strawberry season lasts from October through to April while Blueberry season is a bit shorter, lasting from December through to March.
Otway Strawberries can be found at 155 Gellibrand-Carlisle Rd, Gellibrand. They’re open 9-5pm and for just $10 a kg, it makes for a delicious day out!
1 punnet strawberries
1/2 cup caster sugar
1 1/4 cup cream
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/3 cup boiling water
2 teaspoons gelatine
2 egg whites
1 – Place washed and hulled strawberries, sugar, lemon juice and cream into an electric blender.
2 – Place boiling water into small bowl, add gelatine, stir until dissolved. Add to strawberries in blender.
3 – Blend on medium speed for 30 seconds or until mixture is just combined.
4 – Beat egg whites in a bowl until soft peaks form. Add strawberry mixture. Stir until combined.
5 – Pour mixture into individual serving dishes (or one large serving bowl)
6 – Refrigerate until firm.
